Film Types
New: 8 micron PET-SiOx films
|
 The CERAMIS® product portfolio now includes a new film specification: PET-SiOx films with a gauge of only 8 micron. The manufacturing of these films allows a material reduction of 30% whilst still maintaining the excellent barrier properties. This reduction leads to decreasing laminate costs as well as to a reduced packaging weight. The films comply with the requirements of sustainability and can be applied for all non-retortable products. The new film specification was launched on the market end of November at the International Converting Exhibition ICE EUROPE 2009 in Munich. |

Analysis of barrier properties due to flex-crack stress
|
The properties of high barrier laminates are generally well known and can often be found in the fact sheets of packaging material suppliers. However, the barrier properties of the packaging material after flex-crack stress – such as during the packing process and during transport – are not so well known despite their essential role for the packaging application.
Based on an analysis of different materials we wanted to show how the barrier properties of laminates change as a consequence of flex-crack stress (simulated by means of the Gelboflex test), especially of thin film barrier materials. Apart from traditional aluminium laminates we tested laminates with barrier layers such as EVOH, metalised PET and SiOx coated PET regarding their oxygen and water vapour permeability under different measuring conditions.
