Maag GmbH develops triplex laminate for barrier application
|
As a leading company in the development and conversion of bioplastics for packaging material for the food industry, Maag GmbH has recently begun manufacturing a triplex laminate for complex product applications and differentiated FFS applications.
The core of this barrier material is a CERAMIS®-coated PLA film, which is embedded between two different biogenic materials. The temperature-stable contact surface against the sealing layer is NatureFlex® NVR.
The sealing layer on the inner side is based on a starch film. In the future doypacks made from this triplex material will be marketed in cooperation with the company BAM Packaging Consulting GmbH for different applications.
As a further stage of expansion, the doypack will be equipped with a spout made of biogene plastic, which is currently under development. This will considerably enlarge the field of applications for this stand-up-pouch.

The company O. Kleiner AG in Wohlen (Switzerland) manufactures laminate films with a CERAMIS® barrier layer for packing dry filling goods, such as cereals, coffee and spices. The SiOx layer offers optimal protection against oxygen, moisture and aromas, as well as against aggressive substances.
The following duplex and triplex laminates are used as pouch laminates: PET-SiOx / PE white, PPBO coex / PET-SiOx / PE white and PET / PET-SiOx / PE transparent.
The company O. Kleiner manufactures flexible packaging for food and non-food products. They print flexible films by digital, flexo and rotogravure printing and laminate them as 2- or 4-ply laminates.

Certification
Re-certification-audit of BRC/IoP passed
|
As expected the business unit CERAMIS® has successfully passed the second re-certification audit of the BRC/IoP standard at the beginning of February 2008. The certification according to risk category B (direct food contact) was originally carried out in February 2007.
Since the business unit CERAMIS® is closely linked to other business units at the Kreuzlingen site, it was decided to bring the re-certification audit forward, and to carry it out in the course of the yearly GMP-Audit (EN 15378) of the Pharma business unit from now on.
The BRC/IoP standard is a guideline for manufacturers of food packaging for retail branded products and their suppliers. It was developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) in cooperation with the Institute of Packaging (IoP). Due to its precisely defined requirements on the product, the hygiene and the quality management, this standard has become well established outside of Great Britain, too.
