Best wishes for 2009!

The CERAMIS® Team wishes all the readers of our newsletter a healthy and successful year 2009. We are looking forward to the challenges which this year may bring and, of course, we will keep supplying you with news of the CERAMIS® world throughout the year.

Sustainability
Commitment to Sustainability

"If future generations are to remember us with gratitude rather than contempt, we must leave them more than the miracles of technology. We must leave them a glimpse of the world as it was in the beginning, not just after we got through with it."

(President Lyndon Johnson, on signing of the Wilderness Act, 1964)

In our effort to preserve a habitable world and secure a better future, we commit ourselves to sustainability in everything we do and how we do it. We want to support our goal of sustainability by acting with responsibility and by building partnerships with like-minded customers and suppliers.

On our homepage you will find the new heading “Sustainability”, which – among other things – offers information about the environmental compatibility and product stewardship of our CERAMIS® films, as well as research results regarding the Carbon Footprint of uncoated and coated plastic films.

This information has also been compiled in the brochure „CERAMIS® - Commitment to Sustainability“. We are pleased to send you copies on request, or you can download the brochure from our homepage.

VC999 Bio Pack – first fully biodegradable Packaging with CERAMIS®-PLA

VC999 Bio Pack from VC999 Packaging Systems Ltd. is a brand new packaging system which uses bioplastic packaging material. This fully biodegradable packaging is made from renewable resources. In terms of biodegradability and compostability, the entire VC999 Bio Pack packaging system is certified by DIN CERTCO (certification no. 7P-0199). The individual system components are fully biodegradable, CO2 neutral and produced with energy-saving technology. This VC999 Bio Pack Packaging system guarantees numerous new areas of application for environmentally-friendly modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) – especially for fresh food products.

The PLA-based VC999 Bio Pack tray is highly transparent and sturdy. The lidding film is made of CERAMIS®-PLA which, due to its silicon oxide layer, offers excellent barrier properties against gases, water vapour and aromas.

The PLA packaging is fully biodegradable within 47 days at suitable compost works. PLA can also be physically and chemically recycled and incinerated. The favorable life cycle assessment and the reduction of greenhouse gases comply with current environmental regulations.
