Spicery in biodegradable dispensers
|
The Italian spice producer Arbe is packaging bio spices in completely biodegradable dispensers. The innovative packaging is made of pure cellulose and incorporates a protective CERAMIS®-PLA film on the inner and on the outer sides, which serve to preserve the aroma. The lidding material is made from potato starch and is supplied by a German manufacturer. The contents of the packaging are also selected according to strict and ecological principles: Arbe has chosen only suppliers who work according to the fair trade model. The spices in biodegradable dispensers have been available on the Italian market since 2008 and for a short time also on the French and German markets. |

New device for water vapour transmisson rate put into operation
|
To expand our testing capacity for the water vapour transmisson rate, a new device measuring water vapour transmission, the Mocon Permatran W-3/61, was put into operation at the beginning of this year. In parallel to this expansion, an up-grade to the latest control software was carried out. The new software enables one PC to control all devices for both oxygen transmission rate and water vapour transmission rate, and provides a database where all measured values are automatically recorded and archived.
Overall our barrier testing lab contains four measuring devices for oxygen transmission rate and two for water vapour transmission rate, each with six measuring cells.

Certification
Re-certification audit of BRC/IoP accomplished
|
At the beginning of February we successfully accomplished the re-certification audit to the BRC/IoP standard. The Business Unit CERAMIS® was certified according to BRC/IoP Version 3, risk category 1 (direct food contact).
The BRC/IoP standard is a guideline for manufacturers of food packaging for retail branded products and their suppliers. It was developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) in cooperation with the Institute of Packaging (IoP). Due to its precisely defined requirements on the product, the hygiene and the quality management, this standard has become well established outside of Great Britain, too. |
